Counselling & Therapy Services for Individuals

We offer professional counselling and therapy to individuals with a wide range of needs. Our services are provided in-person or online.

According to CAMH, 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental illness. By the time Canadians reach 40 years old, 1 in 2 have or have had a mental illness. Counselling at Elpizo is not just for those in an emotional crisis. We offer support for those who want to understand their blind spots and for those who want to build and maintain their emotional well-being.

Individual Counselling

Sometimes, we experience distressing events and feelings, which seem to have no end or solution in sight. There are occasions where we are able to deduce that our feelings may be due to a particular circumstance such as marital discord, relationship problem, bereavement or loss of employment, but at other times we simply have no idea why we feel the way we do. These feelings can be strong and even unbearable. The anxiety felt due to these problems can be so great that certain decisions are made hastily and blindly to the individual’s detriment.

How we can help you:

  • We will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental and compassionate space to explore your feelings
  • We will assist you in exploring and clarifying your thoughts and feelings
  • We will listen to you, hear you so that we gain a deeper understanding of your challenges and thereby suggest relevant treatment offers
  • We will provide evidence based interventions that are proven to assist in reducing your symptoms
  • We will challenge you, empower you and encourage you to make the best decisions that align with your beliefs, values and needs

Counselling is not only for those in an emotional crisis but it is also for those who want to check their blind spots and for those who want to build and maintain their emotional well-being.

Here are some concerns that people bring up in therapy, but not limited to:

How will we work with you?

The first few sessions (1-3) will be used to understand your presenting challenges, gather history, conduct baseline assessments and together we will develop a customized treatment plan that will best suit your needs to accomplish the outlined goals.

Our sessions are client centered and structured in ways to benefit you. You will be supported, empowered, challenged, encouraged, and motivated. You will be offered a different perspective and a new way of thinking that will be to your best advantage.

FAQs About Individual Counselling

The fee could range between $130 to $190 for individual plus HST as the federal government charges taxes on Psychotherapy. Fees vary depending on who you are seeing. We offer sliding scale options based on an income assessment to assist those without extended benefits or those with financial challenges.

No, OHIP does not cover Psychotherapy.

Clients with extended health benefits may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement of service fees, depending on their insurance provider. We accept insurance reimbursement as Psychotherapists, Social Workers, or Counsellors. Check with your extended health benefit if you are covered.

Fees are paid prior or at the end of each session. We accept E-Transfer, Debit, Visa, and Mastercard.

Each person’s needs are different. After the initial three sessions of intake, hearing your presenting issues, goals, assessments etc. your therapist will give you some feedback and together with you discuss and guide you through the therapeutic plan and suggest the number of sessions you might need. Your treatment plan is not set in stone and could possibly be adjusted as outcomes are accomplished.

Therapy is a personal thing, and we always do our best to try and match you with a therapist who is skilled in the reasons that brought you to counselling. We appreciate that sometimes for one reason or other the connection does not work.

If that happens, please give us a call. We can review your needs and look at other therapists that may be a better alignment to your specific needs.

Once you decide you on counselling, email or call us to request a consultation with Ruth, Director at Elpizo. She will discuss your needs with you and guide you through our process. Ruth has over 22 years of experience as a psychotherapist and a nuanced understanding of diverse challenges. Ruth takes the guess work out of client/therapist matching. Based on her analysis and your completed intake form, you will be assigned a therapist.
